Development

The Company started its activities in 1965 upon establishment of the National Managing Department of Manufacturing/Purveyance of Secondary Non-ferrous Metals of Lithuania Vtorcvetmet. In 1991, the Company was reorganised into Žalvaris, a State Enterprise of Secondary Non-ferrous Metals of the Republic of Lithuania.

In 1995, Žalvaris became a Public Limited Liability Company and in 2004 – a Private Limited Liability Company.

Authorised capital of UAB Žalvaris exceeds LTL 4 million. The block of shares of the Company are owned by the JSC concern "Consus".

In 2003, UAB Žalvaris expanded its activities setting up its branch in Kaunas – Atliekų utilizavimo centras (Waste Recovery Centre), which provides services of collection and recycling of waste and secondary raw materials.

Having set up the recycling unit, the number of new customers of UAB Žalvaris in the field of waste recycling increased to several thousand. This field in Lithuania was new both, to the Company and its partners. UAB Žalvaris has not only established itself in the Lithuanian market and gained the confidence of its customers, but also started successful cooperation with other similar foreign companies. Having developed particularly close relationships with Estonian, German, and Polish waste management/recycling companies from the very outset of its operations, today the Company boasts of its foreign partners’ geography covering Scandinavian countries, EU Member States, USA and Asian countries.

Recycling of accumulators

In 2006, the Company started importing waste accumulators for recycling from abroad. Having extended the range of collectible waste and started collection and recycling of hazardous and non-hazardous waste and secondary raw materials, the integrated environmental management and quality management system was implemented in the Company’s branch the Waste Recovery Centre in observance of the international standards ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. This system guarantees the conformity of the Waste Recovery Centre’s activities with the technological, legal and environmental requirements and adequate quality of provided services.

Collected waste

In introducing effective management and customer servicing systems the range of waste collected by the Company is being actively expanded and hazardous and non-hazardous waste collection quantities keep growing.

With a view to maintaining its competitiveness, the Company also keeps rapidly increasing the volume of its activities in the field of hazardous waste and secondary raw materials, improving applied technologies, and investing considerable amounts into production facilities and upgrading of collection system.
