Recycled accumulators: safe environment and healthy people

Old vehicle batteries in Lithuania are still one of the most unsafe kinds of waste that are got rid of in any possible way.

Meanwhile, a hazardous waste collection and processing system has been operating in Lithuania for quite some time, and even the harmful lead-acid batteries are successfully recycled.

All the consumer needs to do is to bring the old battery to the special collection center.

Environment protection specialists say that proper sorting of hazardous waste has not become a habit yet, and, therefore, in Lithuania it is still difficult to persuade the people to take this kind of an initiative.

People’s needs encouraged to expand the service range

In April, during the project “Darom 2010” (Let’s Do It 2010), Žalvaris JSC announced a free electronic waste collection project and has been successfully collecting electronic waste from people and businesses since June.

For the entire month of April, the employees of JSC Žalvaris had been encouraging the people and companies of Lithuania to dispose their old electric and electronic devices appropriately. Astonishing results have been achieved: more than 56 tons of computer devices, TV sets, refrigerators and other household appliances were collected during this environmental protection project.

TEO will offer customers to transfer waste telecommunications equipment for recycling.

TEO LT, AB, the largest provider of integrated telecommunication, IT and TV services in Lithuania, will encourage customers to transfer obsolete telecommunications equipment for recycling. TEO has installed special containers in most customer care centres all over Lithuania. Waste modems or telephones collected in these containers will be transported to special recycling centres.

ORLEN Lietuva Fuel Stations offer the possibility of safe disposal of spent batteries

Network of fuel stations operated by ORLEN Lietuva started offering the possibility of safe disposal of spent galvanic elements used in household appliances. In cooperation with the waste management company JSC Žalvaris, special containers have been placed in 24 shops of the fuel station network.
